Situational Exercise (may be called "problem solving exercise") is an exercise in which candidates are provided with hypothetical problem(s)/scenario(s) that are usually personnel and/or tactical/operational oriented. The problem(s)/scenario(s) may be presented in writing, orally, or by viewing a recorded scenario on a video monitor; and they typically consist of only a few sentences of narrative. If the problems/scenarios are presented to the candidate in writing, it may be during a brief preparation phase. The candidate is then given a set amount of time to respond as to how he/she would handle the situation. The candidate is directed to respond in writing or orally. There is no role play involved, and there are usually no follow-up questions posed to the candidate, even if assessors are present. This module includes 73 practice situations.
