The Role Play Exercise (may be called
an "employee discussion," "subordinate interview," "counseling
exercise," “subordinate conference exercise,” "staff meeting," "conflict
resolution exercise," "customer service," "complaint," "community
meeting" exercise etc.) begins with a preparation phase in which the
candidate reviews information about the subordinate(s), complaint(s),
and the problem(s). Candidate then meets with the subordinate(s) or
citizen(s) (trained role players or assessors acting as role players) in
a fully-interactive fashion to work out a plan to resolve the
problem(s), address complaints, or improve performance. There may be a
written report/memo completed by the candidate following the meeting.
